I
remember that these were my first 45 minutes of classes that I had to teach,
and I was very nervous, eager and happy because it was not easy to stand in
front of a big class. Also, I was happy because I had the chance to teach a
real class. I
started the class with a warm-up activity "Red elbow" My point for this activity was to wake the students up to start the class because I had to teach early in the morning, and I consider that the activity was nice, so I could see that they enjoyed the activity. In order to start the class, I asked the studetns a question "What if you have a dental emergency when you're overseas? I showed some pictures with a description of some dental problems that we can suffer, but the vsual aids were poor, also handwriting was too small, but I think they understood everything despite these issues. After that, I had them create a conversation regarding the vocabulary that I taught them, and they did it, they participated, and they passed in front of the class. Something that I did not do in this activty was seating arrangement, so I could not monitor preperly. In order to finish the class, I showed them some flashcards with new vocabulary, and they passed the flashcards doing some repetition, so I can say that this activity was useful for them. The mentor told me that I had to avoid speaking in an informal way like: gonna and wanna, so I will take it into consideration.
Hi Richard!
ResponderEliminarI just want to tell you that your class was great as you described it. You have the feeling that every teacher needs and you must take advantage of this.
I wish you the best!
Hello Richard! As I could read, you had an excellent class surrounded by the participation of the students, don't worry about nerves, being the first class, we all go through that crucial moment in our practice. I am glad that your students participated in the activities you prepared for them, and trust me, I understand you perfectly with the way you address your students because we are accustomed to use an informal vocabulary when communicating; however, you did an excellent job using teaching material in your class. I wish the best in your next Class, and I hope you are free from nerves!
ResponderEliminarGlad to hear you Richard, you did well in this class because you incorporated images while teaching, and it really helps the visual learners to internalize the language.Besides, it is not so bad to use informal language, but try to avoid it so that it cannot affect your professional job you are doing. Marvelous!!!
ResponderEliminarGlad you had a very nice class! I think with flashcards students learn better, it is always a good tool to use in class. And about the nervousness, we all have been there, and they disappear when we get used to teach, so don`t worry about it
